About The Role

Please note: this is a hybrid role based in our Cardiff office 1-2 times per week.

As a Pricing Manager, you will lead the development and execution of pricing strategies across our Commercial Motor Insurance portfolio. This role offers significant autonomy and influence, including direct input into business strategy and team development. You will oversee pricing initiatives end-to-end, collaborate cross-functionally, and act as a key voice in steering profitability, competitiveness, and sustainable growth.

You will play a pivotal role in shaping pricing excellence, building a team over time, and preparing the function for scale.

Key Responsibilities

  • Pricing Strategy & Analysis: Lead the development, implementation, and optimization of pricing models for commercial motor insurance products. Conduct detailed pricing analyses to ensure competitiveness and profitability across various lines of business.
  • Data Analysis: Utilize advanced data analytics to evaluate historical trends, identify emerging risks, and assess market conditions to inform pricing decisions.
  • Model Development & Testing: Design, validate, and refine pricing models and tools, applying industry best practices and cutting-edge technology.
  • Collaboration & Communication: Partner with cross-functional teams (e.g., underwriting, product development, risk management) to provide strategic pricing insights and recommendations.
  • Reporting & Presentation: Develop and present pricing reports, dashboards, and presentations to senior stakeholders, clearly communicating findings and strategic recommendations.
  • Market Research: Stay informed about market trends, competitor activities, and regulatory changes to ensure that pricing strategies remain competitive and compliant.
  • Leadership Development: Over time, you will have the opportunity to take on additional leadership responsibilities, with the potential to grow into a Head of Pricing role as the team expands.

Required Skills & Experience

  • 5+ years of experience in a pricing role within commercial insurance.
  • Strong track record of leading pricing strategy, model development, and team oversight.
  • Proficient in analytical tools and languages such as R, Python, SQL, and Excel.
  • Deep understanding of pricing principles, insurance economics, and risk assessment methodologies.
  • Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders and drive cross-functional alignment.
  • Experience managing or mentoring analysts or small pricing teams.
  • High level of commercial acumen and ownership mindset.
  • Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, dynamic, and ambiguous environment.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience in a start-up or scale-up setting, or in building functions from scratch.
  • Familiarity with machine learning techniques in insurance pricing.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements and compliance in commercial motor insurance.
