About the Role

A Manager in Business Development at Flipkart is a multifaceted role focused on driving business growth within a specific category. Key responsibilities generally include:

  • Strategy and Planning: Understanding customer behavior, market trends, and competition to identify new business opportunities and develop a viable business model. This involves co-owning the P&L (Profit and Loss) for a category.
  • Vendor Management: Building and maintaining strong relationships with vendors, negotiating terms, and ensuring a wide selection of products. The goal is to make Flipkart the "destination of choice" for customers and to make vendors partners in disruptive changes.
  • Merchandising and Promotion: Working with brands to manage in-store promotions and drive offers and discounts for customers.
  • Operations: Overseeing fulfillment strategies and working capital management to ensure an optimal balance between selection, cost, and service.

About the team

The Business Development team at Flipkart is a critical part of the company's growth strategy. It's often organized around specific product categories (e.g., fashion, electronics, home essentials) or business lines. This structure allows the team to develop deep expertise in their respective markets, understand customer behavior, and build strong relationships with vendors in that specific domain.

You are Responsible for

  • P&L Management: Co-own the Profit & Loss statement for your assigned category.
  • Vendor Relationships: Build and maintain strong relationships with vendors and brands.
  • Business Growth: Drive category growth through strategic initiatives.
  • Market Analysis: Analyze market trends, competitor activity, and customer behavior.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with teams like marketing, operations, and finance to execute plans.

To succeed in this role – you should have the following

  • P&L Ownership: The ability to co-own the Profit & Loss statement for your category. This means you're accountable for revenue, costs, and overall financial performance. 
  • Vendor and Partner Management: Strong skills in building and nurturing relationships with vendors, negotiating terms, and driving growth through strategic partnerships.
  • Strategic and Analytical Thinking: The capacity to analyze market data, understand customer behavior, identify new business opportunities, and turn those insights into actionable strategies. 
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: A knack for working seamlessly with different teams, such as marketing, operations, and finance, to execute your plans effectively.
  • Proactive & Action-Oriented: A bias for action, taking initiative to solve problems and drive results in a fast-paced environment.
